This really should go into my Rangers blog, but I have to admit that I'm very happy with the way the team has been playing under John Tortorellla's guidance. They're getting good goals, taking it to the net and appear to be having fun doing it. Here's hoping the next few weeks are just as good! :)

I woke up at 5am, getting only an hour sleep from arriving home from Jay's. After washing up, I grabbed a second set of clothes and jumped into the car. Before I left, I sent a email to my cousin, who I thought would have been still up and on the computer:

Dear Cousin,

Didn't want to wake you guys as I'm meeting up with some coworkers to play paintball (should be cool) and had to meet up with everyone around 7:30 am. I should be back by 4pm or so. If need be, call my cell, but note that I may not be able to call back right away if I'm driving. :)

I'm signed up with AAA so if anything happens with the car, I can get towed. Everything should be cool. :)

I didn't tell anyone about this trip for fear that they'd try to talk me out of it. The only problem with not filling anyone in on things like that is that if you have a problem, it's kind of hard to ask for help. Basically, it was Roaming (like I do after work, wandering around Manhattan), only in a car. Well, that was my reasoning, anyway. I tried to think of everything to prepare for this,but I think I still missed a few things.

And with that, I was off for some gas. Pulling into a gas station some distance away from home, I stopped the car and turned it off.

"So far, so good." I whispered and smiled, pulling at the key to get it out of the ignition. It wouldn't give. "What? No, No, not now." I tried again, with no luck. "Aw, come on, Jess." Still nothing. Damn, I thought to myself, it took me all of one week to break my car. I instead removed the driving key off my ring and got out.

So much for Jessica as a name.

"Uhm, excuse me." I said to the attendant. "This regular..." I pointed to the pump nearest the car. "It's unleaded, right?" I said. The look he gave me was priceless, somewhere right between a 'It's too early for this." to a "Am I being Punk'd"?

"Yeah, it's unleaded." Came the reply.

"Cool, let me get..." I dug in my pocket and looked at what I pulled out. "Ten dollars worth?" I shrugged and placed it in the tray. The attendant smiled and nodded me off. I walked back to the car.

"Okay, Michelle, we're doing good." I opened the gas door to find the cap with the keyhole. 'Remember', Jay's mom had told me. 'The gas cap has to be unlocked.' I took out the key, put it in, twisted and nothing.

Twist and turn, maybe? Nothing but clicks.
Twist, stop and then turn? Nope.
Twist, stop and turn the other way? Sorry.

2 minutes went by with me feeling like Peter Parker trying out his webbing for the first time, and catching the attendant trying to keep from bursting into laughter.

Scratch off Michelle.

"I'm good!" I called out to him and raised my hand, smiling like I knew what I was doing. "Just some minor difficulty." And then glanced heavenward.

"You know, now would be a great time to send a Megan Fox looking Michaela Banes to help out here." I whispered and looked at the cap, which clearly had instructions on it. Twist, hold and turn. Doh.

With the cap off, I grabbed the pump, put it where it needed to go and pulled the trigger. I could feel the gas flowing, and kept an eye on how much was coming through. My eyes widened slightly, seeing the proof of how frustrastrated people get with gas prices. The dollar meter was increasing at a blazing rate. The gas meter wasn't moving nearly as quick.

Once everything was finished, I put everything back, double checked it and jumped into the car. I still couldn't get the key out.

"C'mon, Lisa, work with me." I said, and that's when I looked at the shifter. In my head, I heard that line from Weird Science..."You forgot to hook up the doll." Only here, it was saying, "You forgot to put it in Park." I shook my head, started the car with the brake on, shifted back into Park and turned the car off.

The key came right out.

"Good Lord, why am I even driving?" I laughed, wondering what damage I may have done to the transmission. Shaking my head, I returned the key to my ring and started her up, heading out of the station. When I bought the car, I had half a tank of gas. After 2 weekends of driving home and back to Jay's (not to mention my Autozone trip), the gas dipped to just above the next lower hash mark. With the fill up, it was nearly the next mark past half, sweet.

The GPS was going a great job of showing me where to go, though I knew the first leg of this trip by heart. It was the same route my parents took thousands of times to head into work in Brooklyn. Getting to and on the highway was easy. My only real problem was that everyone (and I mean just about everyone seemed to going faster than 50 - the speed limit). I had cars and the occasional motorcycle blaze by me at what appeared to be the mid seventies.

I used the ride to get acquainted with some of the other gauges on my car with quick glances.

The Oil, for example was in the middle when the car idled and shot up when I drove. I'm still trying to figure that out. The temp meter, on the other hand, caught my attention more than once. It never really strayed from the middle, but if it reached the red, I'd have one of those Blues Brothers driving moments with oil spewing all over the windshield. So far, it was okay, but maybe a Jiffy Lube visit would do the car some good.

About an hour later, I found myself in a deep area of Brooklyn, parked a block over from my coworkers' place. I actually made it there earlier than I needed to be.
