Sold on the MacBook
I've been thinking about upgrading from my PowerBook for a while now. I've had it for about 8 years now (it'll be 8 in September), but it's more or less a decision between getting a MacBook or. a MacBook Pro. While the power of the Pro would let me run programs like Apple's "Aperture" Photo Editor (a program that Apple even recommends it be run on the Pro), I really don't expect to see myself needing that kind of power anytime soon. That and the size of it (15 inches) is just a little off putting. I'd like something smaller to carry around, not bigger.
On the way home, I stopped by a Best Buy to pick up "Indestructible" by Disturbed. If you don't know Disturbed, their "Down With the Sickness" was used in 2004's "Dawn of the Dead" remake. If you still don't know them, one of their songs are featured in Guitar Hero 3 (I think right after Slipknot's track). Anyway, it's good music if you're into the Rock/Metal theme (but it's at least Metal you can make out the words to- none of that "Roar Roar Roar / I'll eat your babies" stuff).
I'm veering off subject. At the Best Buy, I tried out the MacBooks. It's amazing how fast you think something is right up until you use something faster. Mind you, at home, it takes me a good 5 minutes for my machine to start and about a minute or two for each app I start. On the entry level MB with just a Gig of Ram: 1 second.
Let me repeat that. Just 1 second. Now, that might seem normal by everyone's standards, but for me, that's incredibly fast.
So for my needs right now:
- Writing. (And I'll get Scrivener the moment I can.)
- Web Surfing. (And Youtubing - which I do from the Wii these days.)
- Photography. (More pictures for DeviantArt)
-Music. (Because I haven't enough room for music anymore and I'm interested in what GarageBand can do).
And Xcode's still included, if I want to try my hand again at quasi Mac Programming.
Of course, the Pro would have a longer lifespan and that glow in the dark keyboard is alluring, but it's like buying a Ferrari to drive to and from work in New York during rush hour.
So, now it's just a matter of White or Black.

But I am casting my vote. Get the black one.
"Roar Roar Roar / I'll eat your babies" Thanks for that. I am still laughing.
I am picking up the new Disturbed album this weekend.
I'm glad you laughed. World's running too darn serious to avoid laughter. That concept, "Roar Roar Roar" came from something my sister and I stumbled on while flipping channels. We stumbled on a song by Black Sabbath (I believe), called "Suffer the Children", and I kid you not, it was nothing but someone who sounded like the mic was literally fused to their throat. There was that much of a growl. :) I like listening to rock, among other things, but if it's going to be Metal, it just needs to be something I can sing to myself afterwards. :)
If you get the Disturbed album, let me know what you think.
Oh its not Black Sabbath that sang "Suffer the Children." Its a band called Napalm Death. Which I would sometimes listen to back in high school. I liked some of there song. But I never really got into them.
Oh I picked up the new Motley Crue Album the other day. Not sure if your a fan. But if you do get it let me know what you think of it.
Take care and hope you have a nice day.
